Dr. Farin Kamangar is the Chairman and Professor at the Department of Public Health Analysis, School of Community Health and Policy, Morgan State University, Baltimore. He received his PhD in Epidemiology (2005) and MHS in Biostatistics (2005) from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and his MD (1996) and MPH (2000) from Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Kamangar is a cancer epidemiologist, and has been the author or coauthor of over 160 peer-reviewed articles, including several articles in BMJ, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Kamangar is the PI of a major NIH-funded grant (23.3 million), entitled the ASCEND Training Model to Increase Diversity in Biomedical Research Workforce. He is also the PI or Co-PI of several epidemiologic studies, including the Golestan Cohort Study, a large cohort study of over 50,000 individuals in northern Iran, primarily aimed at studying the risk factors of upper gastrointestinal tract cancers.

Dr. Kamangar ranked first in the Iranian Entrance Examination in 1987. During his student years at TUMS, he was one of co-founders of the Student Research Center. He has received 20 professional awards. These awards include the NIH Merit Award, the NCI Director’s Innovation Award, and awards from the President of I.R. IRAN, the Iranian Minister of Education, the Iranian Minister of Education, and President of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
